Statement
"My daily experience of living and working in the north Norfolk countryside over the past few years continues to inspire me, developing and sharpening my response to my surroundings.
Walking and cycling create an intimacy with the landscape, its fields, footpaths and vast, lonely stretches of beach and saltmarshes.
This landscape has a subtle beauty, but with the same edginess which you sense in certain places such as the Yorkshire Dales or Pembrokeshire. I try to convey something of this sensation in my painting, primarily through the use of colour.
I really enjoy moving paint around. Its possibilities are almost limitless. I like to build up colour with glazes, scraping back to remove paint or adding more to reveal or obscure earlier elements. Each painting evolves until I am satisfied it is finally resolved."
