Painter

My painting concerns itself, in the main, with landscape observed directly and rendered in front of the motif.

The subjects, mainly of Cornwall or France, where I spend much time, are constructed from “architectural” drawings or from an “abstract” feeling for compositional structure.

Although, as an art critic, abstract art is perhaps my favourite, I am not myself an abstract painter. However, as a relief printmaker (at Poole Printmakers) reduction linocut in 5 or more colours requires simplification of landscape motifs into mood constituents of form and colour.
