Martin Andrews

Martin Andrews is recognised as one of the leading glassmakers and in England today. His work is known for its high quality, attention to fine detail and innovative surface treatments.
Since graduating from West Surrey College of Art and Design in 1991, his work has gained international acclaim. He worked in Sweden with a renowned glass artist for two years after graduating, and was particularly inspired by the midnight sunsets there.

Other inspiration for his work comes from the natural world around him, in particular water and the landscape, architecture, geometric patterns, movement and power. He attempts to freeze a moment in time, capturing the very essence of the moving material that is molten glass. He is fascinated by the relationship between light and form.
His designs are hand blown in clear lead crystal glass, gathered from the furnace at 1080 degrees. The patterns are produced by melting coloured glass into the different layers of the molten glass ( up to 1150°C) and gradually building up the design. This involves both new and traditional techniques. Each item is made individually with no two being the same; each piece is unique and signed by the artist.

His pieces are exhibited around the world as well as in the UK, and he works with architects and interior designers on bespoke designs for private residencies, hotels and corporations.
