Neil Canning

In 1983 Neil became the youngest artist ever to be elected as an associate member of the Royal Society of British Artists.

Ten years later he won the bronze medal at the Paris Salon. Since then Neil has shown in Royal Academy Summer exhibitions and at major galleries in Britain including Beaux Arts, The Martin Tinney Gallery, New Millenium, Europ'Art, Geneva and Portland Gallery, London.

His work is in important private and public collections. John Hoyland RA says of Neil's work, "I beleive that Miro said, 'I walk the tightrope because I can.' Neil Canning is poised between rapture and the superficial - he will not fall. His beautiful, controlled, open and breathing paintings, made of intense pure colour, hover in the realm of sublime. They are fresh, poetic and brave."

There is always an intense emotion, a strong connection with time or place that I aim to re-create in paint. I do not wish to copy nature, these paintings eventually become my world." Neils work is included in the current exhibiton 'Art Cornwall Now' at Tate, St.Ives, Cornwall.
